GB 1834 Entire bearing 7.Night.7 handstamp in Red.

This is a 1834 pre-paid legal deed entire addressed to John Hanson, Esq., (a prominent London solicitor residing at Upper Norton Street, Marylebone. John Hanson was a well-known London solicitor based at 52 Upper Norton Street (now Bolsover Street) near Portland Place. 

Notably, he served as the legal guardian and chief attorney to the poet Lord Byron.

Postal Markings & Postage

Red Night Duty Postmark: A red framed oval cancellation reading NIGHT / 2 AP 2 / 1834 / Chief Office, indicating it was processed during the evening duty at the London General Post Office on April 2, 1834.

Black "Chief Office" Handstamp: Overstruck heavily across the top left portion of the red night postmark.

"2" (In Black Ink): Represents a 2d charge/rate.
